Classes I to X (Assessment under CCE up to Class X)

Promotion is based on the continuous evaluation with grading process under the CCE pattern of CBSE in all subjects up to class X.

Since its inception, the School has been following the grading system for assessment of a student wherein students were given grades rather than marks and the overall performance of the student is calculated on the basis of his entire year’s performance and not only the year-end examination. The School now follows the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system of Assessment as laid down by the CBSE for Classes I to X.

Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) refers to a system of school-based evaluation of a student that covers all the aspects of a student’s development. The scheme attempts to cover both the scholastic and the co-scholastic aspects of the student’s growth and development.

Scholastic aspects include curricular areas of subject specific areas, whereas Co-Scholastic aspects include Life Skills, Co-Curricular Activities, Attitudes and Values, etc.

PART I: Academic Performance: Scholastic Areas

The students are assessed on subject specific areas which include:-

1. Language I – English
2. Language II – Hindi
3. Language III – Odia

4. Mathematics
5. Science / Environmental Science (EVS)
6. Social Science

Each Academic Year is divided into two terms. The First Term will be from April-September and the Second Term from October-March of the subsequent year. Assessment will be both Periodic and Term-1 & Term-2.

Periodic Assessment is a tool used by the teacher to continuously monitor a student’s progress. It involves regular descriptive feedback, a chance for the student that reflects his performance, take advice and improve upon it. Periodic Assessment is carried out during a course of instruction for providing continuous feedback to both the teachers and the learners. Various tools and techniques can be used to assess students formatively. It includes Class Tests, MCQ Tests, Unit Tests, Class work, Homework, Observations, Orals, Presentations, Projects, Assignments, Quizzes, Debates, Extempore, Speeches, etc.

Term Assessment is carried out at the end of a course of learning. It measures or ‘sums-up’ how much a student has learned from the course. It is usually a graded test. It is marked according to a scale of set of grades. There will be two Term Assessment, one each at the end of each term.

·       Each term will have two Periodic and one Term Assessment.

·       Assessments will be indicated in Grades.

·       The Grading Scale for the Scholastic Areas is a Nine Point Grading Scale.
